You know what? There has never been a better time to write your book and become an author. The opportunities available for authors in the 21st Century are endless. Yet, the majority of entrepreneurs who say they want to write a book don’t actually do it. Why? Based on more than 900 responses to a recent survey by Transformational Book Coach, Christine Kloser, aspiring authors revealed what holds them back.

The majority of authors don’t know where to start or what to do first. They are overwhelmed with too much information and not enough action. Sometimes things like fear and doubt creep in. Other times, its confusion, lack of clarity or confidence that can stop an author in their tracks. Another big challenge for authors is feeling like their book has already been written… by somebody else.

Not to mention the maze of information out there about writing and publishing a book. Is it best to self-publish or try to get an agent and sell your manuscript? How important is it to build your platform? What are the first things to do to start writing your book? How can you leverage your book to grow your business? What do you do about “writer’s block?” How much will it cost to publish?

The questions facing an aspiring author can be endless and the answers are often times confusing. But, you CAN’T let that stop you, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are great people out there who want to help you write your BEST book, who are interested in your message and your success more than they’re interested in your money.

Believe that YES it is absolutely possible to write your book in a way that is easy, joyful and fun – without wasting your precious time, money or energy going in circles. It’s also possible your book will bring about profound personal, professional, and even planetary transformation.

Where is Your Ideal Client?

I talk about the importance of identifying your niche and determining your ideal client and what a huge difference this makes for your business.  It’s one of the first things we went through on my 50 Days to $50K Bootcamp program.  Today’s post contains tips on how to find that client once you’ve identified who they are.

If your ideal client is a single working mother in the US, you know need to figure out where this market  “lives” on the internet.  One really great way is to Google the kind of keywords your ideal client would use in order to find products or services that you are offering.

You can use a site like Google Adwords to find out how many people do search for the word(s) you think are important.  For example, if you search for “single working mother” you will see that there are many searches for this market and a lot of competition on the internet that cater to these keywords.  But, if you narrow your search to “financial help for single working mothers” or some other key phrase, you will see that there aren’t as many websites that use these keywords so your chances of ranking higher on Google are better!

Once you’ve discovered your keywords, now you can start adding those words in your blog and in your articles and this will start drawing an audience to your website.  Why do all this?   Well, if you choose your keywords wisely, it means when your dream client goes to the internet and types in your keyword(s), that your website will come up before others (your competition).

Another great search resource is Twitter.  If you just go to the search feature on Twitter and start looking for people who are talking about being a single mother, and the other keywords you’ve decide on, you’ll find lots of people that you can start building relationships with just by offering some helpful advice.  You can also go to Hashtags.org, and search for your keywords there too.  This site compiles trends for all the tweets that end with a #, (for example #moms) people use those to follow and organize tweets, so you can find out the top hashtags used by your target audience and begin adding them to your tweets giving you a bit more exposure, plus do a search and see a list of all the people using those tags too!

I challenge you to try out one of these tools this week  to see if you can open up a new way to seek out those ideal clients.  Let me know how it goes!

Monday Mindset: Doing one thing with excellence or many with mediocrity?

Nicola Bird, Creator of JigsawBoxThere’s two approaches you can take in business – try and be all things to all people, or do one thing really really well,

Let me explain how that works in our business so you can see what I mean.

Here at JigsawBox we constantly get asked for new features. Can you develop and autoresponder to go with JigsawBox? Can you create your own shopping cart we can integrate? Does JigsawBox do sales pages? Can my clients book appointments into my diary using JigsawBox?

And our answer is ‘no’ and here’s why. Aweber, Infusionsoft and 1ShoppingCart have spent gazillions on perfecting an autoresponder that works. Same with the shopping cart idea. WordPress is already perfect for creating sales pages, and Timetrade is the thing to use for booking client appointments online.

Can you integrate all these things with your JigsawBox? Absolutely. Do we want to divert our resources into trying to provide these for you? Certainly not.

I’m a great one for listening to what your market tell you they want, however we pride ourselves on the fact that we say ‘no’ to a huge percentage of customer requests for development.

We take Steve Jobs’ stance when he quoted Henry Ford who said ‘If I’d asked them what they wanted, they’d have asked for a faster horse’.

Our focus is on making JigsawBox THE number one piece of toolkit for any serious coach. We’re working every day to make it faster, prettier and easier to use. In fact later this week we release the ‘copy module’ and ‘copy package’ feature that you HAVE all been asking for – because this supports our core purpose of providing a simple, elegant, beautiful piece of technology that allows coaches to sell more than their 1: 1 time and have the time, money and freedom to do more of the stuff they love.

So what’s the mindset piece here? List out 10 things you’re going to say ‘no’ to offering as part of your services and get really really focused on that one thing you do really well, better than anyone else in the world.

JigsawBox Tip: Going from Coach to Client in One Simple Switch

Switch from Coach to ClientWe know that our coaches are also clients. We also know that sometimes our clients turn out to be coaches! (Does that bend the mind a little?) So this week I wanted to make sure that you knew all about the feature that we have that takes you from “Coach” to “Client” in a simple click!

It’s the “Switch to Coach” and “Switch to Client” link that’s available on the upper right hand corner of your JigsawBox account. The great news is that you can start using it right now. Here are some of the benefits of using this feature…

First, did you know that you can sign up for packages using your current username and password? Well you can. This makes it all so convenient because then you aren’t sitting there in wonder trying to decide where you placed your username for X or your password for Y.

One username. One password. Multiple signups. How bad can that be?

Second, for coaches, it makes having the client and coach dual view really handy. All you need to do to check out how a package or module looks is simply switch between the two with a click of the “Switch to” link. Again, this is where the one username and password kicks in.

Third, a coach can find their clients’ usernames on the “My Clients” page and then add them to a package on the “My Packages” page with that same username which is a great way to deliver a bonus!

There you go – three quick and easy things you can do via this feature. Spend the weekend and play with your JigsawBox. Exposing yourself to all that it has to offer can only make your user experience EVEN easier.
